The Dutch Mammal Society, assisted by the association for Protection and Preservation of Natural Environment in Albania (PPNEA), with the local support of the Regional Administration of Protected Areas – Elbasan has implemented an ecological summer camp in the Shebenik-Jabllanice National Park entitled "Methods and techniques for monitoring and inventory of mammals”. Beech (Fagus sylvatica) is the most common tree species in Albania. Beech forests occur at 800 to 1600 m elevation in northern Albania, from 1 000 to 1 800 m in the middle part of the country and from 1 200 to 1 900 m in the southeastern part of the country. A sad news coming from the field. In the late evening of 22 July, PPNEA has received signals from locals in the village of Lure, Diber, that the rare Griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus) staying there, has died because of the collusion in electric lines.

Sensational news from the Albanian Alps! PPNEA has been notified by Catherine from Journey to Valbona about a photograph of a Balkan lynx individual taken by a local touristic guide in the region of Thethi. The photo is extraordinary also because it has been taken with a mobile phone. Besides proving the presence of lynx in the region, it also shows the growing enthusiasm among tourist operators about the potential of wildlife as an great natural resource.

With the number of visitors increasing in the National Park of Butrinti, it has also started to operate for the second consecutive year, the "Traditional Flavor” Eco-business supported by PPNEA and BSPB within the CEPF founded project "Land of Eagles and Castles”.
