``Prespa in Seeds`` – Nature Education through Art

The project “Prespa in Seeds” – Nature Education through Art, is implemented by the Protection and Preservation of Natural Environment in Albania (PPNEA), in cooperation with the Municipality of Pustec and the schools within the Prespa National Park, with financial support from the Ministry of Economy, Culture, and Innovation (MEKI). This project falls under the category of cultural events that contribute to the development of local art by raising awareness of environmental approaches.

At the core of the project is the innovative idea of using art as an educational tool, where students engage through seed painting to express their connection with nature and learn about the region’s biodiversity. Art, as a form of visual and emotional communication, becomes a powerful bridge between the younger generation and the nature surrounding them.

The focus is on 15 students aged 13–16 from the schools “Dy Dëshmorët” in Pustec, “Rezistenca e Goricarëve” in Small Gorica, and the “9-Year School Kallamas” in Kallamas, who will be involved in structured educational and creative activities. They will participate in biodiversity training sessions, specialized art courses, and create original artworks using various plant seeds as artistic materials.

In collaboration with a renowned artist who works with the seed technique, as well as environmental experts, the project aims to provide a rich and inspiring experience for participants. The sessions will not only teach artistic techniques but also develop the ability to articulate environmental messages through art.

Specific Objectives

  1. Engaging Youth in Educational and Artistic Activities
    • Involving 15 students from the schools of Pustec in trainings and art courses that connect art with environmental preservation;
    • Raising student awareness about biodiversity and the importance of protecting nature through art.
  2. Creating and Promoting Environmentally Themed Artworks
    • Organizing 5 art courses or sessions where students and the invited artist will create unique works using special techniques, such as making portraits and landscapes with plant seeds;
    • Hosting a public exhibition to showcase the artworks and raise community awareness about nature conservation.
  3. Involving Artists and Experts to Promote Environmental Education
    • Inviting and engaging an experienced artist in the use of natural materials for artistic creation;
    • Organizing a meeting with environmental experts to support the development of activities and provide valuable information about biodiversity in Prespa.

This project aligns with the sustainable development strategy of the Municipality of Pustec and the priorities of PPNEA regarding environmental education and youth engagement. It aims to:

  • Develop the creative abilities and environmental sensitivity of young people.
  • Promote a culture of respect for nature.
  • Strengthen the connection between the local community and the mission of environmental protection.

The project concludes with the organization of a public exhibition where the students’ artworks will be presented, and the winners of the competition will be announced. This exhibition will be a cultural and environmental event with broad impact, where representatives of local institutions, the community, parents, media, and other relevant actors will be invited.

Beyond the direct educational and cultural impact, the project aims to create a new model of interaction with nature and inspire similar initiatives in the future, building a sustainable culture of collaboration between schools, institutions, and civil society organizations.
