The RESCOM project aims to promote the conservation, restoration, and sustainable management of coastal and vulnerable natural areas across the Mediterranean through the implementation of Nature-based Solutions (NbS). It combines regional capacity-building and knowledge-sharing with concrete restoration actions in six pilot sites: Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Italy, Montenegro, and Albania.
In Albania, the project focuses on the coastal, dune, and wetland ecosystems of Divjakë-Karavasta National Park. It is implemented by PPNEA in close collaboration with national site managers and with technical support from Tour du Valat and the Mediterranean Biodiversity Consortium (MBC). The aim is to strengthen local capacities, improve coordination, and apply demonstrative NbS to strengthen ecosystem health and community engagement.
Expected results:
– Sand dune ecosystems assessed and prioritised for improved management.
– Invasive species, particularly Oenothera biennis, reduced through targeted removal actions.
– Awareness and information signboards designed and installed in key areas of the park.
Project Duration: July 2025 – December 2026
Implementing organisation: PPNEA
Partners: NAPA, RAPA Fier, Tour du Valat / Mediterranean Biodiversity Consortium (MBC)
Funding: Co-financed by the French Global Environment Facility (FFEM) and the MAVA Foundation.
