PUBLIC APPEAL TO THE MINISTER OF ENVIRONMENT: STOP THE WORKS IN PISHË PORO–NARTA AND TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING ON THE GROUND
“I want to clarify that no degradation is taking place in the protected area of Pishë Poro-Narta… only the fencing of a private property has been carried out in order to conduct geological surveys,” – declared the Minister of Environment yesterday during the press conference.
The truth is that trucks and excavators have entered the Protected Area and are destroying it by cutting into hillsides to open roads, flattening sand dunes, and transforming the surface within the pine forest by laying gravel materials, even over water surfaces.
Instead of taking immediate measures to verify the situation and halt these works, there appears to be an effort to justify these interventions, while activity in the area continues to intensify. Even today, additional trucks and concrete mixers are entering the heart of the Protected Area.
We call on the Minister of Environment to use this historic moment to show the country’s European face by intervening without delay to stop all works and guarantee the genuine protection of Pishë Poro-Narta.
At the same time, the National Agency of Protected Areas, the National Inspectorate for Territorial Protection (IKMT), and the State Police must fulfil their legal responsibilities and immediately secure the area by stopping all illegal activities within the Protected Area.
