Birdbanding in Prespa National Park, has finished for 2021

The autumnal Bird banding camps, organised during September and October in the Prespa National Park, successfully concluded the bird ringing for 2021, as a new method to study the birds of this area. Besides the capacity building of the staff and participants involved, this proces is contributing to important data gathering for birds, their morphological characteristics etc. In the autumn’s camp, besides the external experts and the PPNEA team, staff of RAPA Korça and student interns from the Eberswalde University in Germany also joined the camp. The results of this camp reached 20 species ringed and over 60 individuals. Some of the species were Spanish sparrow (Passer hispaniolensis), Red-backed shrike (Lanius collurio), Barn swallow (Hirundo rustica), Willow warbler (Phylloscopus trochilus), Sedge warbler (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus), Common whitethroat (Sylvia communis). The bird banding camp further complements the ongoing studies with focus birds, as part of the Prespa project, which will continue to implement in the next two years. These studies will enable gathering the most updated and complete information for the bird species in the Prespa National Park. We hope that next year will bring us back also some of the ringed individuals, as well as to have a greater ringed number of bird species and individuals in the Park 🙂
