Forging ahead green paths
Over the past three months, a concerted effort has unfolded in the Has municipality, as a coalition of experts, community members, and local authorities has convened multiple meetings to advance the “Northern Forests Initiative” project. These gatherings have been characterized by rigorous analysis of geospatial data, inclusive discussions among all stakeholders, and the provision of specialized technical insights. Through these collaborative sessions, precise areas have been identified for the forthcoming implementation of our conservation efforts aimed at the conservation of the northern forests in Pashtrik-Morina. The biodiversity nestled within this region represents an invaluable ecological asset set amidst its diverse habitats. Pashtrik Morina, situated in the northern part of Albania, is rich biodiversity, boasting an extraordinary array of flora and fauna, some of which are both rare and endagered, notably the Balkan lynx. However, despite its ecological significance, this area faces many threats, including deforestation, habitat fragmentation, and unsustainable land management practices. Human endeavors such as logging, agricultural expansion, and infrastructure development pose significant challenges to the preservation of this fragile ecosystem. In response to these threats, conservation initiatives such as the Northern Forests Initiative have emerged to protect and restore the biodiversity of areas like Pashtrik Morina. These efforts are part of a global initiative to preserve these natural wonders for generations to come implemented from IUCN Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Macedonian Ecological Society and PPNEA with the support of Svenska Postkodstiftelsen.
