CALL FOR CONSULTANCY
Position Title: Ornithology Expert
Project: URBiodiversity – Urban Biodiversity Monitoring in Tirana and Librazhd
Organization: PPNEA – Protection and Preservation of Natural Environment in Albania
PPNEA, the first environmental organization established in Albania (1991), works to conserve and protect rare and threatened species, protected areas of high biodiversity value, study wildlife and habitats, and raise public awareness and advocacy for nature conservation. With extensive national and international project experience, PPNEA plays a key role in monitoring endangered species and promoting public engagement in environmental protection.
The URBiodiversity project aims to contribute to the sustainable conservation and management of urban biodiversity in Tirana and Librazhd by establishing a citizen science-based monitoring system and strengthening local nature management practices in urban areas.
PPNEA invites qualified experts to apply for the position of Ornithology Expert, who will develop and implement a specialized methodology for monitoring bird populations in 3–5 selected urban areas in Tirana.
Duration:
- Contract period: 8 months
- Estimated working days: 14 days between January–August 2026Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Development of Monitoring Methodology
- Design a specialized methodology for urban bird monitoring.
- Select clear and measurable indicators to assess bird populations.
- Define simple, replicable methods suitable for local community involvement through citizen science.
- Field Monitoring Implementation
- Conduct bird monitoring in 3–5 designated areas in Tirana.
- Systematically record data using standardized scientific protocols.
- Actively engage the community in observation and data collection to raise public awareness and participation.
- Final Report PreparationPrepare a comprehensive report summarizing monitoring results, including:
- Key findings
- Indicator analysis
- Recommendations for further local actions
Deliverables:
- Urban bird monitoring methodology
- Summary report of monitoring results
Required Qualifications:
- University degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or related fields
- Proven experience in ornithological monitoring
- Strong communication skills and experience working in interdisciplinary teams
- Experience in citizen science or community-based biodiversity monitoring is an advantageApplication Process:
