Cheerful news are coming from the Drino Valley. At least one pair of the Egyptian Vulture has started to visit the first Supplementary Feeding Site for Vultures in Albania built in the fall of 2016. Supplementary feeding is a measure that is being implemented in all the Balkan Peninsula countries where the Egyptian Vulture is still breeding, in order to help the recovery of this very rare species that counts only 51 occupied territories and 45 breeding pairs across the Balkans. The use of this measure, besides providing food for this species, also reduces the risk of poisoning due to poison baits placed for the carnivores, mainly for the wolf.
The station was visited for the first time at the early afternoon of June 2nd and continuously since that day.
This station was built by PPNEA thanks to the support of the CEPF in the framework of the project “#LandofCastlesandEagles” and since that time it is maintained thanks to the significant support of the “#EgyptianVultureNewLIFE” project and the Regional Administration of the Protected Areas of Gjirokastër (#RAPAGjirokastër) with the special care of the director himself Mr. Gligor Dushi.
