BirdOn in Kune-Vain-Tale

Last weekend BirdOn moved to Kune-Vain Nature Park. This park marks the beginning of the creation of the National Network of Protected Areas in Albania with its proclamation as a hunting reserve in 1940. This area can be considered the 3rd most important coastal wetland for wild birds in our country, ranked after Divjaka-Karavasta National Park and Vjose-Narte Protected Landscape. Unfortunately, illegal activities such as poaching still go on, despite the protected status of the area.

Into this session, which corresponded to the Albanian Independence Day, the participants had the opportunity to observe a total of 1756 individuals from 40 different bird species. The most common species was the Common Coot (Fulica atra) with 790 individuals, followed by the Great White Egret (Ardea alba) with 175 individuals and the Northern Shoveler (Mareca clypeata) with 139 individuals. In addition, the participants observed an individual of Little Gull (Hydrocoloeus minutus), which is rarely found in Albania.

Our students are improving significantly into the field of ornithology. We are proud of this young generation of birdwatchers, who will spread the love for wildlife to their family and friends, helping to build a nature-friendly society.
