Marine species under the lens

On the 15th and 16th of May, Sharklab ADRIA as the only regional partner of National Geographic, TEC Discovery, EUSAIR and UNEP MAP hosted an open-day training on the research of basic biological traits and disease diagnostics in sharks, skates, and rays from Albania.

Biology students at the “Ismail Qemali” University attended both lectures and hands-on experience with macroscopic pathomorphological examinations of adult blue shark (Prionace glauca), Sandbar shark (Carcharhinus plumbeus), Lesser-spotted catsharks (Scyliorhinus canicula), Blackmouth catshark (Galeus melastomus), Common eagly ray (Myliobatis aquila) and few more to name.

The PPNEA team was also present at this training where they presented scientific data on the presence of the Mediterranean Monk Seal in Albania, which had been collected through the Eastern Adriatic Monk Seal project.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the UN Ambassador of the Mediterranean Sea Andrej Gajic, CEO Sharklab ADRIA and head scientist at National Geographic, TEC Discovery (@listenthesharktales) and Emina Karalic (@emina.karalic) from Sharklab ADRIA for the invitation and sharing their expertise on various marine species.
