New territory of the Egyptian Vulture found in Albania
Along the last field expedition, PPNEA’s team found a new territory of the Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopterus) in Albania. This territory, reported for the first time, is situated in southern Albania in the area of Kurvelesh – Gjirokastra region. In year 2017, it was carried out a full check of the identified Egyptian Vulture territories in Albania and only 10 territories resulted occupied. The work for this year is in progress. By the end of the season PPNEA will publish the complete results of the monitoring. Egyptian vulture is “Endangered” at global level. In the Balkans, including Albania, the population of this species has seen a dramatic decline, being seriously threatened by extinction.
