Without any project, no public hearing, no consultation, and no sign of a construction permit, heavy machinery has rushed into the Pishë Poro–Nartë Protected Area, cutting down the forest and destroying the sand dunes of what was supposed to be a strictly protected zone!
Such illegal aggression, within one of the most important national and international areas, has not been seen even in Albania’s darkest days of transition, and is certainly a unique case in the region and Europe.
We call on all law enforcement authorities on the ground to stop this irreversible violation of the protected area! We also urge the government to halt these undisclosed plans and ensure transparency about what is happening in the Vjosa River delta!
Even though the government amended the Law on Protected Areas to allow the construction of 5-star resorts, it is now violating even this law by not following any procedures!
