CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL LYNX DAY

CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL LYNX DAY
The Balkan lynx (Lynx lynx balcanicus) is one of the rarest cats on earth, with a population of fewer than 50 individuals found in Albania, North Macedonia and Kosovo. In Albania, there are less than 10 individuals roaming the country. It is a symbol of our mountainous areas, especially of Munella Nature Park, a recently declared protected area, Albanian Alps National Park, and Prespa National Park. It represents the incredible biodiversity of Albania and a great potential for ecotourism and sustainable development. However, this species is critically endangered due to habitat destruction and poaching.
Since 2006, PPNEA together with regional partner organisations from Noth Macedonia and Kosovo and international partners EuroNatur and KORA, have dedicated themself to the protection of Balkan lynx. From camera trapping monitoring and other innovative methods and conducting outdoor education and awareness-raising activities, to lobbying and advocacy, the PPNEA team has experienced it all during their work in more than 15 years of experience.
Come and join PPNEA to listen to stories from the wild and let’s celebrate together the International Lynx Day 2023!
