CONTINUES THE MONITORING PROCESS OF MARINE CAVES, POTENTIAL HABITATS FOR THE MEDITERRANEAN MONK SEAL IN ALBANIA
In the framework of the “Eastern Adriatic Monk Seal” project, PPNEA conducted another expedition this week in order to identify potential habitats for one of the most endangered marine mammals in the world, the Mediterranean monk seal. This activity took place in Karaburun-Sazan National Marine Park, in the segment between Brisan Bay and Dhërmi. This aquatic segment provides suitable habitats for the presence of Mediterranean monk seal, which were explored in detail by our staff. Coordinates for all potential caves were recorded throughout the expedition. Discussions with local fishermen gave us key information about the constant presence of the Mediterranean seal along this segment.
