A fruitful working day with key local stakeholders in the area of Kurvelesh – southern Albania to discuss and decide about the joint actions for addressing the threats and conservation of the Egyptian vulture and other birds of prey. In the region of Kurvelesh is nesting around half of the population of the Egyptian vulture and an impressive number of other birds of prey. This area, thanks to its physical characteristics and conservation and revitalization of the traditional livelihood activities, mainly the livestock breeding, is estimated by local and international researchers as one of the best sites for vultures and birds of prey in Europe. Accidental poisoning mainly, but also other threats are believed to be the cause for the dramatic decline of the vulture population in the area. Thanks to the very encouraging support and commitment of local authorities and other key stakeholders, we believe to address the threats effectively and hopefully eliminate them entirely. Since many years now, PPNEA is working for the recovery of the Egyptian Vulture population through Egyptian Vulture New LIFE project.
