Last September, the protected area of Pishë-Poro in the delta of the Vjosa River was engulfed by flames, estimated to have scorched over 800 hectares of forested land. PPNEA, together with high school students and staff from the Fier Prefecture, and students from “Janaq Kilica” School in Fier, planted pine saplings in this crucial biodiversity zone. The Pishë-Poro protected area, nestled within the delta of the Vjosa River, is a significant ecological sanctuary renowned for its rich biodiversity. This area harbors a diverse array of flora and fauna, including rare and endangered species. It serves as a vital habitat for various bird species, acting as a key point for migratory birds. The protection of Pishë-Poro is of utmost importance not only for the preservation of its unique ecosystem but also for the conservation of the broader natural heritage of the Vjosa River delta.
