A LONG-DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP, THAT’S WHAT WILDLIFE NEEDS
Such distant encounters represent the only way we should approach the Balkan lynx, by remotely watching it in its natural habitat, running free. In this way, its population can increase the chances of recovery, which is a great victory for wildlife in Albania. Only researchers may come closer to this species, such as the PPNEA-s case with the application of box-trap methodology, which aims to collect genetic material and equip the lynx with a GPS transmitter (radio-collar), in order to gain information regarding its behaviour and home range. The killings of three Balkan lynxes in Elbasan, a case made public by PPNEA, are examples of the most scandalous human behaviour upon wildlife. We are convinced that possessing a dead and massacred lynx doesn’t provide any positive feeling, but instead watching it in its natural territory, as illustrated in the video below, gives so much pleasure. PPNEA calls on the citizens to boycott every restaurant that serves wild animals meat and exposes stuffed species in its premises. Furthermore, we call on the authorities to wake up and react against such terrible crimes upon wildlife.
