BREEDING BIRDS INVENTORY IN THE PRESPA NATIONAL PARK

BREEDING BIRDS INVENTORY IN THE PRESPA NATIONAL PARK
The first breeding birds inventory in the Prespa National Park was carried out 10 years ago while drafting the management plan of this protected area. In order to assess the effectiveness of the conservation measures implemented along the years, as well as the bird populations, our team carried out a second inventory. This process was realized by visiting every possible habitat around the Prespa lakes basin, such as water, shrublands forest habitats and even alpine pastures.

Birds are indicators of the quality of the environment, therefore the gathered data will give us an opportunity to assess the quality of different ecosystems, helping to deduce the hidden reasons for any possible change.

The results of this process will serve as a scientific basis for the upcoming conservation measures that will be carried out in the near future by the Regional Administration of Protected Areas Korçë. Furthermore, the same data will be published in a detailed report which will be made available in the web page of PPNEA.
